Ghana’s 3×3 b’ball team shine at ANOCA Zone III Games
Ghana’s 3×3 basketball team won silver at the just-ended Association of National Olympic Committees of Africa (ANOCA) Zone III Games held in the Togolese capital of Lome.
The team lost 13-6 to Cote d’Ivoire in the finals played at the University of Lome courts.
Ghana’s team, made up of skipper Carlen N. Adjei, Gloria Gyampoh, Hannah Amoako, and Stephanie A. Annan, began the competition on a losing note as they lost 9-8 to Benin
Team Ghana then redeemed herself by beating Cote d’Ivoire 10-7 and bitter rivals Nigeria 13-11 to qualify for the finals.
In the final game, the Ghanaian side started well but succumbed to the Ivorians.
Head Coach of the side, Mr James Kwami Ocloo, in a chat with Time Sports congratulated the team for the sterling performance over the five-day tournament.
He was of the belief that the Ghanaians could have emerged victorious if officiating was better.
He, however, stated that the performance marked an improvement from the previous competition and advised that the team was given the much-needed support and attention, so that they can perform at the upcoming African Games.
“It is a young team and such tournaments are needed to build confidence and expose them to the new ‘’trends’ of the sport. With more tournaments and support, Ghana can win a medal through this team. “
Head of the Ghanaian delegation, Madam Aurora Commodore-Toppar, thanked the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC) for their support for the tournament.
The team has since returned home
