Half-Assini Police Commanderallegedly commits suicide
The Half-Assini District Police Commander Superintendent (Sup) Cyprian Macarthy Zenge, is alleged to have committed suicide.
The body of Sup Zenge was found dead with gunshot wounds, at his residence at Half-Assini in the Jomoro Municipality of the Western Region, on Saturday at about 7am.
A statement signed by the Head of Public Affairs Unit of Police, Western Region, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), Olivia ET Adiku, confirmed the story.
It said the regional crime team had already visited the crime scene,and reported that the deceased was found sitting in a blue chair with gunshot on his forehead with his pistol beside him on the floor and one spent ammunition under the chair.
The statement said what appeared to be a written note by the deceased police officer was found at the scene, but the content was not disclosed to the media.
It indicated that although preliminary investigation pointed to suicide, the investigation was opened to unravel the true circumstances, leading to the death of the police officer.
The statement said the death has been communicated to the family of the late Supt Zenge, and journalists to be sensitive and circumspect in their reportage or commentary on the matter as investigation was ongoing.
The late Supt Zenge left behind a wife and a child.
