IDEG commends Pres Mahama’s initial ministerial appointments
The Executive Director of the Institute for Democratic Governance (IDEG), Dr Emmanuel Akwetey, has praised President John Dramani Mahama’s initial ministerial appointments, citing their professionalism and qualifications for the roles.
The appointments saw the nomination of Dr Ato Forson as the Minister of Finance Designate , Mr John Abdulai Jinapor as the Minister of Energy Designate and Dr Dominic Akuritinga Ayini as the Attorney-General (AG)and Minister of Justice Designate .
According to him, Dr Ayini as the AG designate was a strategic move since he served as a senior lawyer for decades and believed his experience would help shape the legal system in the country.
Speaking to the Ghanaian Times on his opinion about the President’s appointments in Accra yesterday, Dr Akwetey said “Well, I think they are all kind of tested. You know, in the government, for instance, Dominic Ayini was Deputy Attorney General and Minister of Justice and is the founding partner of Ayini and Partners, so he can deliver.”
On Dr Ato Forson’s appointment as the Minister of Finance designate, he said the appointee had been in parliament for years and his experience in finance would help boost economic activities in the country.
He praised Dr Forson for his rich academic background as a chartered accountant, taxation, macroeconomics and business management, adding that these expertise would help boost the economy and make the country stand out on the global continent.
“He has always been the choice person of the president in this thing. When he was there, he helped the President in embarking on his campaign reforms so he deserves the appointment,” he noted.
Furthermore, Dr Akwetey expressed optimism that the economic situation in the country would improve and encouraged all citizens to collaborate effectively with government to promote development.
For the the Minister of Energy Designate, Dr Akwetey said that Mr Jinapour possessed a hands-on experience and competence to serve the position he was appointed for.
Dr Akwetey noted that Mr Jinapour had the know-how in the energy portfolio and has extensive qualifications particularly in energy and economics.
