Khelif to take legal action over leaked medical reports

The Algerian boxer, Imane Khelif, one of two at the centre of the Summer Olympics boxing gender row, is reportedly looking to take legal action over the release of alleged medical reports in France claiming she has male XY chromosomes.

The controversy first began when Khelif, and Taiwanese boxer Lin Yu-ting, were allowed to compete in Paris despite being disqualified from the International Boxing Association’s (IBA) 2023 World Championship for failing gender eligibility tests.

As the two boxers progressed through their respective Olympic events, with Khelif ousting Angela Carini in 46 seconds in the best-of-16 round before going on to defeat Chinese world champion Liu Yang in the final, attention and abuse mounted.

The subsequent pandemonium resulted in Khelif filing a lawsuit for cyberbullying which included prominent individuals such as now US President-elect Donald Trump and billionaire Elon Musk.

Now reports suggest that Khelif will be taking further legal action against those that referenced “unverified documents whose origin cannot be confirmed” according to the IOC.

First mentioned in an article by journalist Djaffar Ait Aoudia for French media outlet Le Correspondent, the claims suggest that Khelif underwent medical tests at the Kremlin-Bicetre Hospital in Paris in June 2023 after being expelled from the 2023 IBA World Championship.
