Former President John Dramani Mahama has said that he has no apology to make to the do-or-die comment and that he still stands by his words.
He explained that the comments was a call to action by all party executives to be vigilant and ensure that the 2024 elections are won at the polling station without resorting to the law court.
“It is an English idiom, which means a critical assignment to ensure that you do the needful to achieve intended result.
The former president said this during a radio interview on Moonlight FM in Sunyani as part of his thank you tour in the Bono Region.
The comment made by the former president on a radio station in Techiman had courted mix reaction among the political divide.
“We have learnt our lesson from the election, NDC must man the polling station, we need to get this impunity away in our elections”, he said.
Former President Mahama said the breaking the eight slogan by the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) was an attempt to cover up on pervasive corruption in the current administration and perpetuate their stay in power, adding that voting them out was the only option to hold them to account.
Touching on the 2020 general election, the former president said a lot of things went wrong, citing alleged ballot stuffing, over printing of ballot papers among others by the Electoral Commission.
Several schemes were in place to restrict people from registering, with the introduction of questionable identification system, the former president said.
The violence which took place at Banda where several people were prevented from registering with the reason that they were foreigners was the most unfortunate, he asserted.
The former president said the spate of armed robbery in the country was worrying and called on the president to resource the police to do their work.
He thanked the chiefs and people of the Bono Region for their support during the last elections and appealed to them to continue to support the NDC come 2024 general election.
The National Chairman of the NDC Samuel Ofosu Ampofo, said the party was not against government Agenda 111 and that the party undertook more health infrastructure during their time.
He said the NDC was to rescue Ghanaians from the current hardship from the Akufo-Addo-led government with broken promises and mismanagement of the economy.
Johnson Aseidu Nketiah, General Secretary of the NDC, appealed to party executives to continue to work hard to improve on the performance of the party from the last election.
He said reclaiming five seats which was won by the NPP was commendable and urged them to continue with that.
