NDC chairman calls for stronger church partnership

The chairman of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, has underscored the critical role of the church in shaping the moral character of the youth, describing it as essential to reversing what he termed the declining moral standards in Ghanaian society.
He stressed the need for stronger collaboration between the church and the state, noting that such a partnership was vital to addressing challenges in the education sector, particularly in the management of public mission schools, improving student discipline and enhancing academic performance.
Mr Asiedu Nketiah was speaking at the 40th anniversary celebration of the Mid-West Ghana Conference of the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Sunyani last Saturday.
The Mid-West Ghana Conference, which oversees the activities of the church in the area, marked four decades of dedicated service, growth and spiritual impact. Originally established in 1894, the conference has undergone several phases of reorganisation to strengthen its mission and outreach.
Mr Asiedu Nketiah paid tribute to the founding fathers of the church and congratulated them on achieving the milestone. He also commended the church for building a vibrant institution grounded in strong infrastructure and the spiritual well-being of its members.
Delivering the sermon, Pastor Daniel Boateng praised the pioneers of the church for their dedication and sacrifices, expressing confidence that their efforts would be rewarded in due time.
He urged Christians to shun immoral behaviour, including bad character and actions that harm spouses, children or perceived enemies, stressing that such conduct was incompatible with Christian values.
Pastor Boateng further encouraged the congregation to deepen their faith in God and remain honest in their dealings, noting that these principles formed the foundation of Christianity.
Former Vice-President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, commended the SDA Church for fostering strong interfaith relations, which he said had contributed to religious tolerance and harmony in the country.
He noted that the church’s investments in education and health infrastructure had significantly contributed to national development, describing them as worthy of emulation.
Dr Bawumia also called on the government to find lasting solutions to erratic power supply and other developmental challenges.
The Paramount Chief of Sunyani, Odeefour Boahen Korkor, who chaired the event, urged the church to leverage its influence to campaign against filth and environmental degradation.
He emphasised that the church had a responsibility to promote moral values and help reverse societal decline.
