Team Adjeman win ‘Nye Awo Kpakpa’ football championship
Adjeman football team, a community club, last Monday beat Gormli football team 4-2 on penalties to become the champions of the second ‘Nye Awo Kpakpa’ (Good mother) Community football tournament
The winners received a trophy, undisclosed cash reward, footballs and gold medals while the second placed team took home undisclosed cash, silver medals and
footballs for their efforts.
Plaques were given to players for emerging winners of individual awards including the Most Valuable Player, Best Goalkeeper and Goal king after the competition.
Both teams had many chances but it was Adjeman that converted one of theirs in the dying minutes of the first half.
Team Gormli mounted pressure after the break and with five minutes to full time, had a penalty which they converted to equaliser.
The winners scored four of their kicks while Gormli managed to score just two.
The 2024 tournament began on April 8, 2024 with 24 local teams battling it out on weekly basis at the La McDan Town Park.
In her address before the final game, Ms Rita Naa Odorley Sowah, the incumbent Member of Parliament (MP), said the tournament was to build a stronger community and foster unity among the people.
Ms Sowah, who is the National Democratic Congress (NDC), parliamentary candidate for the La Dade-Kotopon Constituency in the up-coming general election said others like volleyball, table tennis and others would be added to the next tournament.
In her appreciation, she thanked all who have contributed to the success of the tournament and urged them to work together with her to bring the needed the development in the constituency.
Ms Sowah then urged the residents to exhibit and maintain the unity and peaceful atmosphere displayed during the tournament in the upcoming general election.
