A delegation from the Royal College of Defence Studies (RCDS), United Kingdom, has visited Northshore Apparel GH Ltd to assess how industrialisation and job creation are contributing to economic prosperity and national security in Ghana.
The visit formed part of an international study tour by a 20-member team of staff and participants of the RCDS Global Strategy Programme, organised with support from the Ghana Armed Forces.
The delegation, led by Lieutenant General Sir George Norton, undertook the visit under the theme: ‘Security, Stability and Prosperity at the Grand Strategic Level.’
During a tour of the newly established garment manufacturing factory in the Savelugu Municipality, the Chief Executive Officer of Northshore Apparel GH Ltd, Mohammed Nurudeen, described the visit as a strong endorsement of the company’s vision and its contribution to development in northern Ghana.
He explained that the factory was creating employment opportunities for young people while positioning Ghana as a competitive player in the global garment supply chain.
He noted that when organisations pursued the right strategies, they attracted attention that could drive development, particularly in the northern part of the country.
Alhaji Nurudeen disclosed that production had already begun ahead of the factory’s official commissioning scheduled for August this year.
He added that the company was producing garments for both local and international markets, with workers undergoing advanced training to meet global production standards.
He said the factory was fully operational, with machines running and workers delivering quality output at the required speed.
Alhaji Nurudeen further revealed that the company had secured production contracts from buyers in South Africa and the United States.
In addition, he said the firm had reached an agreement with the Youth Employment Agency to produce fire assistance uniforms under one of its employment modules.
He appealed for stronger international partnerships to support the growth of the factory and accelerate industrial development in northern Ghana.
Speaking on behalf of the delegation, Mr Max Prince said the visit was aimed at deepening their understanding of how economic transformation and job creation could enhance national security and stability.
He commended the company for creating opportunities for the local population, including vulnerable groups such as persons living with disabilities, describing the initiative as inspiring.
Mr Prince also praised the quality of garments being produced and encouraged management to pursue more international collaborations to expand production capacity.
The Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Export-Import Bank, Sylvester Mensah, described the factory as one of the most promising industrial ventures in the country.
He said the company had the potential not only to generate employment but also to earn significant foreign exchange through exports, noting that the garments being produced for international brands and markets would contribute substantially to Ghana’s foreign exchange earnings.
