‘AT Touching Lives’ organises blood donation for sickle cell patients
A Telecom Operator, AT Ghana, through its ‘AT Touching Lives’ on Wednesday organised a blood donation exercise to support Sickle Cell Disease (SCD) patients.
This exercise was organised in partnership with National Blood Bank, the exercise, that took place at AT Head office in Accra, was to commemorate the Sickle Cell Awareness month.
The Head of Brand and Communication of AT, Ms Nancy Assor Aseidu Amrade, said they deliberately chose to hold the donation exercise to coincide with the Sickle Cell month as their blood donation was solely for the Sickle Cell Warriors.
To make people understand what Sickle Cell Disease was, she said AT had documented the experiences and lessons from persons living with Sickle Cells, how they had managed and live with the diseases since they were diagnosed.
She said they had held educational forum on social media platforms in order to educate the public on the disease, the cause of it, how they could manage, and what they would do to prevent it.
The Chief Executive Officer of AT, Mr Leo Skarlators, said it was importance to create inclusive and supportive workplaces for people living with SCD as they were integral part of their community and need special attention.
He said society must provide persons living with SCD with the flexibility to seek necessary medical treatment to enable them to be productive while managing their health.
The Deputy Chief Donor Organisation, National Blood Service, Mrs Sophia Mellis Blankson, also called on the general public to donate blood to help save lives.
