Bishop cautions Christians against ‘perverted’ pastors

The Founder of the Gospel Way Theological Institute, Bishop Emmanuel Essandoh, has cautioned Christians against pastors whose conduct and character contradict the values of the Christian faith.
He said while pastors were called to serve God and guide their congregations, some had become pompous, immoral and lacked the self-discipline expected of religious leaders.
Bishop Essandoh gave the caution during the induction and ordination ceremony of 18 newly qualified pastors at Okanta last Saturday.

He expressed particular concern about pastors who behaved inappropriately towards women.
“There are some perverted pastors, they have no control. Unless he sees a lady in an appropriate way, as for the church members, he is everywhere. Run for your life if you are under that pastor,” he said.
He also condemned what he described as excessive pride among some pastors, stressing that no minister was superior to another because all were servants of God.
“There are some pastors who are pompous, they have much pride. Nobody is above anyone. We are all servants,” he said.
Bishop Essandoh further raised concerns about individuals entering the ministry without adequate preparation or a genuine sense of calling.
He said some people, driven by the lack of employment opportunities, resorted to establishing churches as a means of making a living.
“In their minds, because there is no job in the country, when they just get the little opportunity, they can open a church,” he said.
He urged Christians, therefore, to be discerning when selecting churches and spiritual leaders, saying they should not be swayed merely by titles, popularity or outward displays of spirituality.
Rather, he said, Christians should examine the character, humility, conduct and motives of those who claimed to be called to ministry.
“We should be very careful around those pastors,” Bishop Essandoh cautioned.
