Domiabra-Obom traditional leaders form assoc.

Traditional leaders in the Domiabra-Obom Constituency in the Ga South District over the weekend launched the Domiabra-Obom Chiefs, Elders and Queen Mothers Association (DOCA) to accelerate development in their communities.
The association’s aim is to promote peace, unity and to lobby for development such as infrastructure, education, security and employment.
It rallied traditional and opinion leaders from communities including Domiabra, Ashalaja, Kwame Anum, Kweku Pamfo, Obaakowa, Kohokowhie, Junction, Akotuako, Kofi Kwei, Obom, Ashifla among others.
Speaking at the launch at Kofi Kwei School Park, president of DOCA, Nii Kofi Kwei II, who is also the chief of Kofi Kwei, said that a united front would give them a louder voice to champion the pertinent issues affecting their people.
He said the delayed development in their communities was worrying and this pushed them to set aside their differences in pursuit of rapid development for their people.
He bemoaned the poor road networks in the communities, insisting that it was an issue of grave concern.
He added that the association would form committees on infrastructure, education, security, employment and welfare to ensure progress on key issues.
The Member of Parliament (MP) for Domiabra-Obom, Sophia Karen Ackuaku, described the collaboration as timely and one that placed the spotlight on pressing issues such as infrastructure, education, security and employment that needed immediate attention.
Mrs Ackuaku entreated the traditional leaders to use their new platform to position the constituency as the foremost seller of sand, a rich mineral resource in the area, to enhance employment in the area.
The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of Ga South, Joseph Stephen Nyarni, applauded the chiefs on the initiative and admitted that such unity was paramount to advance the slow-paced development in the area.
He promised engagements with the chiefs to ensure that development projects were undertaken in the various communities.
He revealed that as part of his commitment to improve the security situation in the constituency, two police stations with one stationed at Denchira would be commissioned before the end of the year.
