Don’t install Nii Ayi Biwalti as Chief of Konkomba Market …METSEC warns

The Accra Metropolitan Assembly(AMA) Security Council (METSEC) has cautioned the Konkomba Yam Market Association againstinstallingNiiAyiNtebiKoBiwalti as the Chief of the Konkombas at the market.

This follows mixed reactions from members of the Association who disapproved the installing of the chief over them.

Addressing  a press conference on Thursday in Accra, the Metropolitan Chief Executive of Accra, Ms Elizabeth Naa Kwatsoe Tawiah Sackey, said any plan to go ahead with the intended programme on September 17, 2022 would heavily be dealt with by the METSEC.

She said both parties had appended their signatures to commit to the decisions of METSEC for peace to prevail in the area.

“ And will be held liable for any breach of security in the area in connection with the intended outdooring of Nii Ntebi Kon Biwalti as Chief of Konkomba at the Konkomba Yam Market at Agblogbloshie in Accra,” she stated.

She expressed concern about the indiscriminate installation of the chiefs without the necessary approval.

She said such unfortunate and uncustomary installations were being done by some people without the prior approval from her office.

Ms Sackey stressed the need for all Konkombas to unite and come together to disregard and undo the injustices going on.

She warned that the practice must stop forthwith to avert any chieftaincy disputes in the Market as it undermined the unity and peace of the area.

The Konkomba Yam Market in Accra, Ghana, is one of West Africa’s largest agricultural markets.

The KYM marketplace and immediate surroundings support thousands of livelihoods directly and indirectly through ancillary networks, labour opportunities, and a multitude of micro-enterprises.
