GAMH appeals to GMC management for payment of GH₵70m salary arrears
The Ghana Association of Mineral Haulers (GAMH) has appealed to the management of the Ghana Manganese Company (GMC) to as a matter of urgency settle the over GH₵70 million salary arrears owed its members.
The Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Association, Mr Prince Barely, in an interview with the Ghanaian Times in Accra yesterday, indicated that his outfit would not rest until every member is fully paid.
The GH₵70 million, he said, was as a result of five months of salaries in arrears.
He described the failure of the GMC to prioritise the welfare of workers as gross violation of state laws.
According to him, the members were law abiding persons and would not like to take the law into their own hands at the expense of the “sweat” of workers.
“We are not calling for anything big, all we want is our salaries to be paid to us in full. For close to six months now, we have not received our salaries and we have families to take care of too.
“How do they expect us to survive if they do not pay us,” he lamented.
Mr Barely also bemoaned that Ghanaian haulers were treated with disrespect and stressed on the need for government to swiftly intervene in the matter.
He further appealed to the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources and the Minerals Commission to ensure operations of the GMC were properly regulated.
