GBA promises to support 65th Independence anniv

The Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) has promised to offer rich tourism experience to guests, ahead of the 65th Independence Day anniversary celebration.

The two-week celebration, scheduled to take place at Cape Coast, in the Central Region, is on the theme: “Working Together; Bouncing Back Better.”

It would be the third time to be hosted outside Accra, after Tamale, Northern Region, and Kumasi, Ashanti Region.

The Regional Director of GTA,Mr Kwame Gyasi, speaking to journalists after meeting stakeholders at Cape Coast, on Tuesday said preparations were far advanced and that both foreign and local tourists would have “a lifetime experience while exploring the rich culture of the place.

MrGyasi urged players in the tourism industry to embrace and position themselves to take advantage of the event in order to attract more visitors.

“For us at GTA, we are responsible for tourism promotion and development that is why we wanted to go the extra mile. I believe all the institutions are doing their part but the ultimate responsibility lies with us. This is just to spur us on,” he said.

The Central Regional vicechair of the Ghana Hoteliers Association, Mr Victor Mintah, expressed members’ readiness to host any presidential delegation or head-of-state that would be present.

“The Hungarian President and his delegation were hosted some four weeks ago in the region. We are ready to host any presidential delegation or heads-of-state who will be here for the celebration and give them a rich experience of what the Central Region has to offer in terms of culture, attractions, hospitality and cuisine and let them know who we are and where we are coming from,” he said.

Mr Emmanuel Lawer, the Principal Standards and Quality Assurance Officer, GTA, called on hotel owners to train their staff “to be on top of business” while ensuring a clean environment.

“Without clean environment, you don’t have any business doing in the hospitality sector. As much as possible, let us keep every department clean,” he stressed.
