Ghana will maintain peace, civility despite heated rhetoric – Okyenhene

Okyehene Osagyefuo Amoatia Ofori Panin has expressed confidence that Ghana would maintain its peace and civility despite the heated rhetoric from politicians leading up to the 2024 presidential and parliamentary elections.

Reflecting on the nation’s electoral history, he noted that Ghana has successfully navigated high-stake elections since 1992, and the December 2024 election would follow this pattern of stability.

Speaking at the Okyeman Nifa Royal Durbar, held in his honour as part of the celebrations marking his 25th anniversary on the throne, Okyenheneemphasised the importance of responsible voting.

He urged the youth and all eligible voters to exercise their rights conscientiously during the upcoming elections.

“We have done it before, since 1992, and Ghana remains stronger and united. On December 7, go to your polling center, vote for the candidate who can bring development, and then return home.

“You may choose to come back in the evening to witness the counting or stay at home and listen to the results on the radio. At the end of the day, there will be a winner. If you lose, take a chilled drink—the sun will set and rise again,” he said.

Okyenhene highlighted the resilience of Ghana’s democracy, asserting that the country’s democratic achievements will not be undermined in the 2024 election.

Instead, he said that Ghana would continue to thrive within its democratic framework and called on Ghanaians to embrace forgiveness and love for one another.

In addition to his call for national unity, Okyenhene urged Ghanaians to demonstrate patriotism and selflessness, particularly those in public service.

He emphasised the need for teachers to reciprocate the support they received by performing their duties with diligence and love, as the strength of society rests on their shoulders.

He also stressed the importance of education that focused on skill development and entrepreneurship to create job opportunities for the youth.

Okyenhene praised the government’s efforts in improving education over the years but urged the state to continue creating an environment conducive to job creation to address unemployment.

His remarks reflected a deep commitment to the well-being of the nation and a belief in the continuous progress of Ghana’s democratic and developmental journey.

The Nifahene, Daasebre Dr Twum-Ampofo III, expressed appreciation to the Okyenhene for spearheading development in the area.
