GNFS receives operational vehicles to enhance emergency response

The government has donated four Nissan pickups, two mini buses and a motorbike to the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) to strengthen emergency response operations across the country.

Presenting the vehicles in Accra on Monday, the Minister for the Interior, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, said the gesture demonstrated government’s commitment to improving the operational capacity of the service.

He explained that the vehicles would enhance mobility, support operational duties and improve rapid deployment of firefighters, particularly in areas with difficult road access.

“The work of the Fire Service remains critical to national safety and development. Every day, firefighters put their lives on the line to protect lives, property and infrastructure,” he stated.

Mr Mohammed-Mubarak expressed the hope that the vehicles would be properly maintained and used for their intended purpose to benefit the people of Ghana.

Receiving the items, the Chief Fire Officer, Daniella Mawusi Ntow Sarpong, said the donation would significantly improve logistics support for the service, especially at a time when increasing industrial activities continued to create new fire and safety challenges.

She noted that the government’s commitment to retooling the service was encouraging, adding that processes for procuring additional fire tenders and equipment were far advanced.

Mrs Sarpong assured the government that the vehicles would be properly maintained and used responsibly to improve service delivery.

She reaffirmed the service’s commitment to professionalism, discipline and effective emergency response in protecting lives and property nationwide.
