The Bunso Fire Station responded to two separate fire incidents at Anyinam and Akyem Asafo on Monday, September 7.
In the first incident, the station received a distress call at 0428 hours reporting a commercial fire near the main lorry station at Anyinam. A six-member crew led by ADO II Annan arrived at the scene at 0445 hours to find the fire, suspected to have been caused by an electrical fault, already extinguished.
The crew carried out overhaul operations to prevent reignition. Items including mattresses, a TV stand, wooden ceiling and plastic chairs were partially damaged, while two standing fans were completely destroyed. Gas cylinders, chairs, a mattress, bench and table were salvaged. No casualties were recorded, and occupants were educated on fire safety.
On the same day, the Bunso Fire Station also responded to a vehicle fire involving a black Mazda CX-7 on the Accra-Kumasi Highway at Akyem Asafo.
The call was received at 1033 hours and a seven-member crew led by ADO II Amankwah Dacosta arrived at 1049 hours.
According to the owner, he heard an unusual sound from the engine, parked to check, and saw smoke from underneath before the vehicle burst into flames. Bystanders attempted to overturn the vehicle, which intensified the fire.
The crew used foam concentrate and extinguished the fire at 1110 hours. The vehicle was completely destroyed, but no casualties were recorded. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
