ICU swears in National Consultative Council Executives of COCOBOD local union

The newly elected executives of the National Consultative Council of COCOBOD Local Union have been tasked to uphold the attributes of leadership, which encompass greater commitment, sacrifice, humility, dedication to duty, fairness and transparency, honesty, probity, and accountability.
“While you accept the challenge to lead the workers of COCOBOD at this critical and challenging time for the Cocoa Industry, you must be guided by the status and importance of COCOBOD as a key player in Ghana’s economy,” the General Secretary of the Industrial Commercial Workers Union (ICU) Ghana, Morgan Ayawine, said.
At a short swearing-in ceremony of the executives in Accra yesterday, the ICU Ghana General Secretary implored them to be guided by the historical antecedents of the Cocoa Industry, relating to management and union relationships that have contributed to making cocoa the mainstay of the Ghanaian economy in spite of the oil discovery.
This, according to him, has been amply supported by recent statistics released by the Government Statistician, Dr. Alhassan Iddrisu, in a Monthly Indicator of Economic Growth (MIEG) published in The Ghanaian Times of Friday, October 17, 2025, in which he cited COCOBOD as one of the institutions that provided data for the development of the MIEG.
Mr. Ayawine said this was an indication of how COCOBOD, through the farmers, workers, management, and union, is significantly contributing to Ghana’s economic growth.
“The challenges of today within the Cocoa Industry are not episodes that are unsurmountable. We believe that the Government and COCOBOD, with the right and systematic policies, can quickly turn things around in the areas of improving quality, increasing tonnage, and reclaiming our enviable position on the market as the world’s leading producer of premium-quality cocoa,” the ICU Ghana General Secretary stated.
Mr. Ayawine expressed optimism that the COCOBOD Head Office Union would work closely with all other unions within the Ghana Cocoa Board to cooperate with management and other stakeholders to achieve the Board’s set goals in an atmosphere of industrial peace and harmony.
Mr. Eric Tucksan is the Chairman; Frank Abuuro, Vice Chairman; and Daniel Samari, Secretary, with Dennis Sarpong as Assistant Secretary. The rest are Richard Nana A. Kumah and Terry Nii Joy Nelson as First and Second Trustees respectively; Bright Fenteng Asomaning, Executive Member; Ophelia Mensah Dzade, Women Representative; and Dennis Kwaku Boamah, Youth Representative.
