The Head Coach of the Black Stars, Otto Addo, has named striker, Jordan Ayew, as the new captain of the team for their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers against Angola and Niger next week.
“Ayew has agreed to take up the role to lead and guide the team and I’m happy he has accepted the role. I think he can give a lot to the team going forward.”
Addo said this when he announced the squad for the final AFCON double header at a press conference, yesterday.
“I talked to Kudus for him to understand that he still needs to learn and grow into that role. I want him to still be the second captain alongside Alexander Djiku,” he stated.
The former Ghanaian international went ahead to name the squad, which had debut call-ups for Asante Kotoko midfielder, Emmanuel Antwi, and Nations FC’s defender, Razak Simpson, while goalkeeper, Abdul Manaf Nurudeen, Nathaniel Adjei, and Joseph Paintsil.
