LaNMMA distributes 10,000 broilers 100 households

The La Nkwantanang-Madina Municipal Assembly (LaNMMA) has distributed about 10,000 four-week-old broilers to some 100 households in the municipality as part of the government’s Nkokor Nkitinkiti programme.
Each household, which registered with the Municipal Agriculture Directorate, received between 40 and 50 birds to kick-start their projects, in addition to feed and other items needed for a successful poultry venture.

The nationwide initiative, launched by President John Dramani Mahama last year, seeks to improve food security, create jobs and reduce the country’s reliance on imported chicken.
It forms part of the government’s Poultry Industry Revitalisation Programme under the broader Feed Ghana Programme.
The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Alhaji Ibrahim Fussuini Faila, supported by the Member of Parliament (MP), Francis Xavier Sosu, presented the birds to the Municipal Director, Ms Lydia Aku Fiatuho.
He said the initiative would create jobs and empower residents, particularly the youth, to become self-reliant.
According to him, the project would not only create employment opportunities for residents but also serve as a viable business venture for the younger generation within households and the community.
Alhaji Faila said the first batch of 100,000 day-old chicks had already been distributed to poultry farmers who were already in the business, and expressed optimism that the initiative would yield the needed results to boost the nutritional needs of residents.
The MCE stated that the programme, if effectively implemented by beneficiaries, would significantly increase local poultry production and consumption, while reducing the cost of imported frozen chicken.
Mr Sosu reiterated the commitment of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to transform the poultry sector by making households self-reliant in both the sale and consumption of poultry.
He urged beneficiaries to take good care of the birds and assured them of his continuous support and cooperation with the MCE to ensure proper feeding and growth to meet market standards.
The Municipal Agricultural Director, Ms Fiatuho, said beneficiaries were required to provide glucose, water, vitamins and broiler starter feed during the early stages, adding that extensive sensitisation had been carried out and that positive results were expected.
