Lashibi substation upgrade completed ahead of schedule

THE Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has successfully completed Phase Two of the Government’s Transformer Replacement and Upgrade Programme at the Lashibi Primary Substation ahead of schedule, restoring power supply to affected areas earlier than expected.

The project, which had been scheduled for completion on Friday, April 17, 2026, was completed ahead of time following intensive round-the-clock work by ECG’s technical teams to install and test the new equipment.

Distribution transformers in affected communities were also upgraded as part of the exercise.

As a result, electricity supply to Lashibi and surrounding communities has been fully restored, reducing the duration of the planned outages initially announced.

Providing an update on subsequent activities in a statement signed by the Acting Director of Communications, Dr Charles Nii Ayiku Ayiku said the location and schedule for the next power transformer upgrade were being finalised, with a formal announcement expected in the coming days through its official communication channels.

It added that, as part of the Government’s broader efforts to strengthen the national power system, the company would soon commence an expanded programme to replace ageing distribution transformers in affected communities.

According to ECG, the interventions form part of measures aimed at reducing system overloads, minimising frequent outages, and ensuring a more stable and reliable power supply for customers.

The company expressed appreciation to residents of Lashibi and nearby communities for their patience, cooperation, and understanding during the brief planned outages, noting that their support enabled the works to be carried out safely and efficiently.

ECG reaffirmed its commitment to delivering improved and reliable electricity services to support national development.
