
Tensions curently escalating at the headquarters of the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO), today, Monday, July 13, 2026 as Ghana Police officers and members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) clash over the arrest of the party’s Communications Officer, Dennis Miracles Aboagye.
Miracles Aboagye was arrested by EOCO officials at the Kotoka International Airport over the weekend. The development triggered a protest at the EOCO office, with dozens of NPP supporters gathering to demand his immediate release.
NPP National Organizer, Henry Nana Boakye, expressed frustration over how security agencies are handling the case.
“We have been to other security agencies but we still can’t find Miracles Aboagye,” he said.
Speaking to ghanaiantimes.com.gh, NPP National Organizer hopeful, Moses Abor, warned that targeting political opponents will have negative consequences for the country.
“The continued persecution of political opponents and arrests will not lead the country in a positive direction,”_ he stated.
The protest became more heated when NPP National Youth Organizer, Salam Mustapha, addressed the crowd.
“They are breaking the law, so whatever we want to do, we will also do. We are all Ghanaians,” he fumed.
Party communicator, Senyo Amekplenu, also issued a stern warning to President John Mahama and the NDC government.
“One day, one day, if you continue this tangent, the tables will turn,” he said.
Party members at the scene were seen singing, chanting, and demanding the release of Dennis Miracles Aboagye.

Dennis Miracles Aboagye is a Communications Officer of the New Patriotic Party and served as Executive Secretary of the Inter-Ministerial Coordinating Committee on Decentralization, IMCCoD.
He was arrested by EOCO in connection with an ongoing investigation into alleged financial and procurement irregularities at IMCCoD. EOCO says the probe relates to the suspected misappropriation and diversion of about GH¢55 million in public funds between August 2022 and February 2025.
The arrest comes amid rising political tension, with the NPP accusing state security agencies of targeting opposition figures.
The NDC government has denied the claims, insisting that all investigations are being conducted with due diligence to the law.
