Okraku: It’s a collective role to bring fans back
The Ghana Football Association (GFA) President, Kurt Okraku, is urging football stakeholders to work collectively to improve spectatorship at football games.
He made the call in his speech at the GFA Awards that honoured outstanding individuals and institutions for their contributions in the 2022-23 season.
Games have in recent years had terrible spectatorship and the GFA President believes a collective response was needed to tackle the issue.
“Let us also think about how we are going to bring our 12th man back to football. Our 12th man is our fan. We call our 12th
man our supporter.
It is the collective responsibility of all of us herein gathered to play our respective parts in ensuring that as we celebrate, we do this knowing very well that we have a role to play in bringing back the 12th man of football. This is our challenge in the new season.”
Mr Okraku also stated that Association has cleared all financial payments due competition winners and outstanding fees owed to match officials.
“The GFA end of season Awards aim to recognise and reward not only players but also individuals and entities that have contributed significantly to the growth and development of football in Ghana. This includes coaches, referees…who work tirelessly to support our beloved sport.
“I am also happy to announce that the FA has successfully paid up all prize monies that is due all our competing winners as far as the just ended football season is concerned and that includes us paying up our match officials.”
