Over 1,000 participate in maiden Asuogyaman Tourism, Arts Festival

More than 1,000 people from across the country and beyond participated in the maiden Asuogyaman Tourism and Arts Festival 2025, which ended in grand style at Atimpoku in the Asuogyaman District of the Eastern Region.

The four-day festival, held from December 4 to 7, 2025, was aimed at showcasing the district’s rich tourism potential while promoting culture, unity, and local economic development.

Activities included a health walk, fun games, guided tours on the Volta Lake, canoe races, boat rides, and the “Asuogyaman Strongest” competition.

Other attractions were the “Asuogyaman Most Beautiful” pageant, traditional cultural performances, musical concerts, and various entertainment events.

A major highlight of the festival was the illumination of the iconic Adomi Bridge with modern decorative lighting, accompanied by colourful fireworks displays over the Volta Lake.

The festival also featured an exciting diving competition from the Adomi Bridge into the lake, which drew large crowds and heightened excitement.

The event attracted both local and foreign tourists, resulting in a surge in business activities, with hotels in and around Atimpoku recording full occupancy throughout the festival period.

To ensure safety, about 1,000 security personnel were deployed, supported by the Ghana Armed Forces, Navy, National Ambulance Service, Ghana National Fire Service, NADMO, and the National Investigation Bureau (NIB).

The Ghana Tourism Authority, working with the Asuogyaman District Security Council (DISEC), coordinated security and emergency response efforts.

The festival was climaxed with a grand durbar of chiefs and brought together traditional authorities from Akwamu, Anum, and Boso.

The Paramount Chief of Akwamu, Odeneho Kwafo Akoto III, together with other traditional leaders, graced the occasion and presented awards to outstanding participants.

The festival was initiated by Mr. Kwame Agyare Bafo, CEO of Adomi Bridge Gardens. He explained that the event was conceived to promote the district’s numerous tourism assets, including the Adomi Bridge, Volta Lake, and Akosombo Dam.

The District Chief Executive for Asuogyaman, Mr. Godwin Bobobee, commended organisers and assured of continued support to make the festival an annual attraction.

The Deputy Minister of Finance and Member of Parliament for the Asuogyaman Constituency, Mr. Thomas Nyarko Ampem, graced the occasion and pledged his full support for next year’s celebration.

Addressing the large gathering, the Member of Parliament hailed the organisers of the Asuogyaman Tourism and Arts Festival 2025, saying Asuogyaman cannot be left out in tourism and other potential areas within the district.

The Member of Parliament earlier endorsed the Asuogyaman Tourism and Arts Festival celebrations on the floor of parliament and described the festival as the hub of tourism in Ghana and a leading tourism destination in Africa.

Furthermore, Mr. Ampem Nyarko extended a warm welcome to his colleague MPs and people from all walks of life to take advantage of next year’s festival in Asuogyaman Akwamu-Atimpoku and visit the unique tourism attractions and multi-star hotels in the district.

The idea of the Asuogyaman Tourism and Arts Festival was born in 2016, a vision of Mr. Kwame Agyare Bafo, after recognising the district’s numerous tourist attractions beyond gold.
