Prosecution closes case in GH¢49.1m Cybersecurity software trial

The prosecution has closed its case in the matter of Republic vrs Kwabena Adu Boahene and two others, after the cross-examination of its fourth and final witness.

This means the State has finished leading evidence to substantiate the 11 financial offences preferred against the accused persons.

The accused, former National Signals Bureau (NSB) boss Kwabena Adu Boahene, his wife Angela Adjei Boateng, and their company Advantage Solutions Limited, are standing trial for allegedly stealing GH¢49.1 million meant for the purchase of a cyber defence software for the State.

The prosecution called four witnesses.

The first, Frank Anane Dekpey, a driver to the first accused, testified that he ran errands for his boss, including carrying cash in “Ghana Must Go” bags for deposits and withdrawals on the instructions of the first accused.

The second witness, Ruby Adumoah Opoku, Head of Finance at the NSB, testified about the transfer of the GH¢49.1 million from the NSB’s account into an account unknown to the Bureau.

The third prosecution witness testified that she operated a company set up by the accused persons to move funds, and that the accused gave her pre-signed cheques for that purpose.

The fourth witness gave details about the nature of the account allegedly created for the diversion of the funds, the investigations that unravelled private expenditure by the accused persons, and discredited the authenticity of a letter purporting to confirm the purchase of the cybersecurity software.

Following the closure of the prosecution’s case, lawyers for the accused indicated their intention to file a submission of no case.

The court has given them two weeks, until September 25, to file the application, with the prosecution given two weeks after service to respond.

The court has set November 5, 2026, to rule on whether a prima facie case has been made to warrant the accused persons opening their defence.
