PSG Ordered to Pay Kylian Mbappe €60 Million in Unpaid Salary and Bonuses

A Paris labour court on Tuesday ordered Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) to pay Kylian Mbappe €60 million ($70.6 million) in unpaid salary and bonuses, partially resolving one of the most high-profile disputes in French football.
The ruling followed months of legal wrangling after the France striker filed a lawsuit against PSG over unpaid earnings for April, May, and June 2024, shortly before leaving the Ligue 1 club on a free transfer to Real Madrid.
Mbappe’s lawyer, Frederique Cassereau, stated, “We are satisfied with the ruling. This is what you could expect when salaries went unpaid.”
The court confirmed PSG had failed to pay three months of salary, an ethics bonus, and a signing bonus stipulated in Mbappe’s contract. Previous rulings by the French Professional Football League (LFP) in September and October 2024 had already recognized these amounts as due.
While the judges rejected PSG’s claims that Mbappe should forfeit unpaid wages, several additional claims by the player, including allegations of concealed work, moral harassment, and breach of the employer’s duty of safety, were dismissed.
Mbappe’s legal team emphasized that the judgment reaffirms the application of labour law in professional football: “This judgment confirms that commitments entered into must be honoured. Even in the professional football industry, labour law applies to everyone.”
PSG acknowledged the ruling and confirmed it will comply while reserving the right to appeal: “Paris St Germain has always acted in good faith and with integrity, and will continue to do so,” the club said. – REUTERS
