PURC launches project to address utility coys commercial loses in N/R

The Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC) has launched a project to help reduce the commercial losses suffered by the utility companies operating in the Northern Region.
Dubbed: ‘Tamale in Focus,’ the initiative is also aimed at bringing stakeholders together to work closely with the media and the indigenes to tackle illegal connection of power.
The Northern Regional Minister, Mr Ali Adolf John Mburidiba, who launched the project here on Wednesday, said the project would go a long way to improve the financial viability of utility service providers.
He appealed to consumers to pay their bills regularly to financially sustain the utility companies.
Mr Mburidiba entreated the public, private institutions and the indigenes of the region to honour their debts obligations with the utility providers to improve on their revenue generation.
The Regional Minister also entreated consumers to avoid illegal connection so the utility companies could generate the needed revenue to finance their operations.
Mr Mburidiba lauded the Commission for successfully resolving 93.56 per cent of the 319 complaints lodged against service providers by consumers in the first quarter of 2025.
The Minister commended NEDCo and Ghana Water Limited (GWL) for improving their communication on planned and unplanned outages in the region.
He then encouraged the utility companies to improve on their services and interaction with their customers.
Moreover, Mr Mburidiba commended PURC for initiating the project to help address the losses being encountered by the utility companies to boost their revenue.
The Northern Regional Non-Revenue Water Officer of the GWL, Mr Neena Mohammed, said the launched of the project would provide them a platform to highlight their experiences and challenges in the delivery water services to the people of Tamale and its environs
He stated that the project would go a long to boost the economic development of the Northern Region.
Mr Mohammed assured the Minister that GWL would continue to collaborate with the stakeholders in the region to serve the consumers well.
