Ramseyer Co-operative Credit Union opens branch at Ashtown

The Ramseyer Cooperative Credit Union (RCCU) has officially opened its branch at Ashtown, near Kejetia market, Kumasi to provide services to its customers within that catchment area.

The opening of the new branch formed part of activities marking the silver jubilee celebration of the credit union.

This brings to six of the number of branches of RCCU since it was established in 2000 and in addition to the six physical branches, RCCU also operates a virtual branch.

Speaking at the opening of the new branch, which was also used to launch the 25th anniversary of the credit union, the Chief Executive officer of RCCU, Kennedy Yeboah, said RCCU started mainly as a welfare scheme for members of the Ramseyer Presbyterian Church at Adum.

He noted that it initially started with just 16 members at the time and has grown over the years and could currently boast of over 5,000 shareholders and a customer base of more than 14,000 clients.

From its humble beginning in a kiosk at the Adum Ramseyer Presbyterian Church, RCCU now has six physical branches, including its magnificent Head Quarters located at Dadiesoba near Asafo in Kumasi and a virtual office.

The other branches are Asafo Market, Ejisu, Adum, Sokoban and Dadiesoaba, where the head office is located.

For the past 25 years, he stated, RCCU has served the financial needs of its customers which include mainly petty traders and individual businesses. Aside from the launch, he said the credit union has a lined up of activities which would be undertaken every month till the climax in June.

Some of the activities lined up include financial literacy education, Corporate Social Responsibility activities, among others.

Mr Yeboah attributed the success of RCCU to the loyalty of its members who he said, “have stayed true to the organisation throughout these years.”

But for their loyalty, he was not sure the credit union would have reached its current level and expressed his deepest appreciation to the shareholders, the board of directors and the staff for their dedication.

Additionally, he mentioned that the silver jubilee celebration was the perfect occasion for the credit union to appreciate the efforts of the shareholders who were actual owners of the business for their unwavering support over the past two and a half decades.

Mr Yeboah also recognised the support of the board in his two decades of dedicated service to the credit union as a CEO.

He said their support coupled with that of the staff who has made it possible for him to manage the credit union till date and expressed his gratitude to them and called for their continuous support for the subsequent years.

Moreover, he indicated that plans were far advanced to fully digitalise the operations of the bank and make it possible for its customers to access services from the comfort of their homes.

He said the future of the credit looked very bright as it prepares to expand and grow its membership and continue to provide tailored services to meet the needs of its growing clientele.

According to him, RCCU was not just members of the Ramseyer Presbyterian Church at Adum but opened to all including those in the formal sector.
