Real Madrid rule out Rodrygo loan

Real Madrid have made their position on Rodrygo’s future clear, with the club closing the door on a January departure as the Brazilian continues his recovery from a serious knee injury.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Real Madrid have informed the forward’s representatives that they will not consider loan proposals when the winter transfer window opens.

The priority at this stage is getting Rodrygo back to full fitness rather than discussing his future.

Rodrygo suffered an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury with meniscus damage in March and subsequently underwent surgery.

The setback ruled him out of the 2026 World Cup and has kept him sidelined for an extended period.

His recovery has progressed positively, however, and the Brazilian has already moved beyond the earliest stages of his rehabilitation.

After returning to jogging in September, he has now started individual work with the ball.

Even then, his competitive return is not expected until January 2027, making the coming months crucial for his physical recovery.

Mourinho and his coaching staff are understood to want the forward fully prepared for the second half of the campaign, which has effectively ended any possibility of a temporary move.

Real Madrid’s stance is a notable change from the summer, when the club was open to the possibility of Rodrygo leaving as part of the squad reshuffle.

The landscape has also changed since then. Yan Diomande has arrived, while Kylian Mbappe and Vinicius Jr. remain central figures in Madrid’s attack, leaving questions over Rodrygo’s position once he returns.

Yet the club is not prepared to address those questions through a January loan.
