UDS players and officials celebrating with the trophy

The UDS side clinched the trophy after a thrilling 2-1 victory over Paulista University of Brazil in the final.

The win makes them the first African team ever to secure the global university football title.

“Your determination, teamwork and resilience have lifted Ghana to the pinnacle of global university football. This victory is a triumph for UDS and the entire nation. Know that you have written your names in history and inspired young people across Ghana and beyond. Congratulations,” Prof. Opoku- Agyemang wrote.

In response to the Vice President’s words, the University has expressed appreciation for her encouragement and support, which they said had been with the players from the quarter-final stage to the historic win.

In another development, the C. K. Tedam University of Technology and Applied Sciences (CKT-UTAS) has congratulated the team for successful annexation of the 2025 FISU trophy.

A release issued and signed by Professor Albert Luguterah, Vice-Chancellor of the University, described UDS’s success as a well-deserved milestone worth celebrating not only because it marks the very first time an African University has lifted the coveted trophy, but also because the monumental feat which was birthed out of the unrelenting resilience of our gallant players and visionary technical team, confers on Ghana and Africa an unprecedented honour and recognition in world university football.

“As an academic institution of excellence that was carved out of the UDS, we share common values, beliefs, and aspirations. To say that we are overjoyed and proud to be associated with this historic achievement is an understatement.”

“The entire CKT-UTAS community stood with you in awe of the ultimate prize and were thrilled at the display of skill and tenacity by Team UDS, especially during the penultimate and final matches between UDS and Granada University of Spain and Paulista University of Brazil respectively,” the release said.

To the entire playing body, officials and the UDS community, “we doff our hats to you on this incredible accomplishment,” the statement added.
