Zito: FA Cup offers more realistic chance of silverware

The interim coach of Asante Kotoko, Abdul Karim Zito, has asserted that focusing on winning the MTN FA Cup offers the club a more realistic chance of winning a silverware than targeting the Ghana Premier League (GPL).

Asante Kotoko is in contention for both the GPL title and the FA Cup, with a semi-final match against Berekum Chelsea scheduled for Sunday.

However, Kotoko lie in fourth position and trail city rivals and league leaders, Nations FC, by three points in the GPL with four matches more to end the season.

Speaking to the media on Sunday, Coach Karim Zito explained that he was tasked to strive to win both competitions after signing the deal to take charge of the team in an interim position, following the sack of Prosper Narteh Ogum.

“For Kotoko fans, there is hope and belief that we can clinch both titles. A victory against Hearts today (Sunday) would have significantly improved our position in the league with four matches left,” he stated.

However, he acknowledged the reality of their situation: “If we are being realistic, we need to prioritise the MTN FA Cup over the league title.”

Zito noted that while results in other matches had been favourable, their failure to secure a win against Hearts has complicated their league aspirations.

“Given this situation, we will focus more on the FA Cup, to be honest. But if results align in our favour, we could still contend for the league title,” he added.

Their upcoming fixtures include home matches against Dreams FC and Medeama SC, along with away games against Bibiani Gold Stars and Vision FC in their final four matches.
