3rd accused in Adu-Boahene GH¢49m case hires new defence lawyer
One of the accused in the alleged GH¢49.1 million theft case, Mildred Donkor, has appointed a new lawyer after parting ways with her previous counsel, Mr Samuel Atta Akyea, last week.
During proceedings at the Financial and Economic Court in Accra yesterday, Mr Nutifafa Nutsukpui, who previously defended former COCOBOD CEO, Dr Stephen Opuni, in the lithovit fertiliser case, announced himself as counsel for Donkor.
Mr Nutsukpui requested access to all pending applications and responses filed by the Attorney-General.
However, the trial judge, Justice John Eugene Nyadu Nyanteh, denied the request, stating that Donkor is literate and could have followed the filings or retrieved them through her former counsel.
Meanwhile, the court dismissed an application by Mr Kwabena Adu-Boahene, a former Director-General of the National Signals Bureau and co-accused, seeking an order compelling the Attorney-General to provide information on alleged stolen luxury vehicles in his possession.
The application had been filed by Mr Akyea prior to his dismissal.
Justice Nyanteh, however, directed the police to make available to the defence any relevant information in their possession concerning the vehicles to support Mr Adu-Boahene’s defence.
The prosecution, led by Deputy Attorney-General Dr Justice Srem-Sai, told the court that Adu-Boahene had transferred a total of GH¢49 million from state accounts into his private company account, under the pretext of acquiring cyber defence systems, but only part of the amount was transferred to the purported vendor, ISC Holdings Ltd.
