Accra Sports Stadium can host Chad 2026 FIFAWCQ – Acting NSA boss

The Acting Director of the National Sports Authority (NSA), Mr Seth Panwum-Bayoyo, has refuted claims that the Accra Sports Stadium is unfit to host Ghana’s upcoming World Cup qualifiers (WCQ) against Chad and Madagascar in March.
He asserted that the stadium remains in excellent condition, having undergone regular maintenance and refurbishment.
Panwum-Bayoyo stressed that reports portraying the facility as being in a deplorable state are misleading, and do not reflect its current status.
The Accra sports stadium is really solid and in a very good shape.
He said “You know, since the last incident that led to the closure of the Baba Yara Sports Stadium, and we put in every effort to refurbish it, it has still been maintained, it has still been maintained to its standard till date.
Additionally, Panwum-Bayoyo addressed concerns about the condition of the VIP booth, clarifying that any previously reported issues, including sanitation and structural concerns, have been fully resolved.
He emphasised that maintenance efforts have been ongoing, and the facility is now in a much-improved state, ready to host international matches.
He further confirmed that the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has officially designated the Accra Sports Stadium as the venue for the World Cup qualifiers, with the match against Chad scheduled to take place there on March 17, reaffirming its readiness to host international fixtures.
“As far as we know, the GFA has submitted the stadium, and from our communication with them, the game against Chad will be played here,” he emphasised.
His remarks come in response to reports circulating that the stadium is in a poor state and unfit to host Ghana’s crucial World Cup qualifying matches.
This is the deplorable state of Accra Sports Stadium. From dirty, broken seats to filthy washrooms, a dirty compound & poor lighting in the corridors. -Citinewsroom
