Adutor-Kpota Chief destooled for disrespect to customs

The Divisional Chief of the Anyigbe Clan of the Agave Traditional Area, TogbeAbordor VIII, has destooledTogbeLuguAhiaku IV as chief of the Afevime gate at Adutor-Kpota for gross disrespect for customs and traditions.
Speaking at a ceremony in Lakpo-Agave in the South Tongu District, TogbeAbordor explained that chiefs were prohibited from engaging in acts that undermined tradition and offenders risk destoolment.
He stated that the action followed the former chief’s decision to change his stool name from TogbeLuguAhiaku IV to TogbeLuguAwadali IV without approval.
He further alleged that the destooled chief registered clan lands in his own name for personal gain, exceeding his authority and creating division within the clan.
TogbeLuguAhiaku IV was installed on March 31, 1978, as a sub-chief and was expected to uphold unity, consult elders, and respect tradition.
The Anyigbe Clan comprises three gates: Afegame, Afevime, and Agbofeme.
TogbeAbordor said the former chief violated custom by taking the Divisional Chief, sub-chiefs, and members to court, claiming ownership of clan lands.
After consultations with chiefs, queen mothers, and elders, all three gates unanimously approved his destoolment.
Following traditional rites, he ceased to be chief, and dealings with him as such carry risk. He is now known as Mr Mathias Kwame Ahiagba.
TogbeAbordor assured that the decision would restore unity, peace, and proper governance, while preserving the sanctity of chieftaincy and promoting integrity among leaders.
He emphasised that chiefs must remain accountable to their people and uphold collective ownership of lands and heritage. He warned that any future violations would attract similar sanctions to protect the unity and dignity of the Anyigbe Clan. Community members present expressed support for the decision, noting that it would deter misconduct and strengthen traditional leadership structures across the area. They urged continued dialogue and cooperation among all stakeholders.
