A contingent from the Air Force took over guard duties at the Jubilee House in Accra yesterday at a colourful ceremony witnessed by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo
The Naval contingent that had been guarding the Presidency for the past three months handed over that duty to the Air Force contingent at the 30th Change of Guard ceremony at the forecourt of the Jubilee House
The Air Force contingent is expected to guard the Presidency for the next quarter.
The Chief of Staff, Madam Frema Akosua Osei Opare, the Chief of Defence Staff, Lt. Gen. Obed Akwa, service commanders and senior government officials also witnessed the colourful ceremony.
School children, students and teachers from the Oxford International School, Tiny Gem School, Eno Kwakyewaa International School, Madina Senior High School, Sap’s School and Accra High School, also witnessed the ceremony.
The event, characterised by military precision drills, ensures maximum security, constant fortification and the alertness and readiness of the military guards at their duty point.
The ceremony, which was instituted on May 5, 2013, is a replica of the guard changing system at the General Headquarters Command Gate of the Ghana Armed Forces.
It is conducted with 20 each of old and new guards from different Services/ Regiments, Escort contingent, Corps of Drums and the National/Regimental Colours, under the command of a captain (Army) or its equivalent from the other services.
