Air Force takes over guard duties at Presidency
The Ghana Air Force has taken over ceremonial guard duties at the Presidency following the 49th Ceremonial Changing of the Guard Parade held in Accra yesterday.
The ceremony marked the end of the Ghana Navy’s three-month stint at the Presidency and the formal transfer of responsibility to the Air Force.
The Vice-President, Prof. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, who presided over the ceremony, was joined by government officials, security personnel and schoolchildren.
Among the dignitaries were the Chief of Staff at the Office of the Vice President, Mr Alex Segbefia; the Minister for the Interior, Mr Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak; and the Inspector-General of Police, Mr Christian Tetteh Yohunu.
The ceremony featured military drills, performances by the military band and other colourful displays, highlighting the discipline, coordination and professionalism of the Ghana Armed Forces.
The Change of Guard is a long-standing military tradition at the Presidency under which the Ghana Army, Ghana Navy and Ghana Air Force take turns to provide ceremonial guard duties at the seat of government every three months.
At yesterday’s ceremony, personnel of the Ghana Navy formally handed over to their counterparts from the Ghana Air Force in a display of military precision and discipline.
The rotation allows for an orderly transfer of responsibility among the three services while ensuring continuity in security arrangements at the Presidency.
It also gives each service the opportunity to undertake guard duties at the seat of government and maintain high standards of discipline, alertness and professionalism throughout its period of duty.
With the handover completed, the Ghana Air Force will be responsible for guard duties at the Presidency for the next three months.
The ceremony ended with the formal installation of the new Air Force guard, bringing the 49th Ceremonial Changing of the Guard to a close.
