Ghana’s build up to next month’s FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Chad and Madagascar has received a significant boost with the arrival of Technical Advisor, Winfried Schaeffer.
Schaffer, who arrived in Accra on Monday night, was met on arrival by Black Stars Assistant Coach, Desmond Ofei.
“The German tactician was appointed in January to provide technical guidance and oversee the development of football in Ghana. His role also involves working closely with the Technical Directorate to develop and implement long-term strategic plans for the GFA,” a Ghana Football Association statement said.
With a managerial career spanning over 40 years, Schaeffer brings a wealth of experience to the Black Stars. His notable achievements include winning the Africa Cup of Nations with Cameroon in 2002.
Ghana is set to face Chad and Madagascar in crucial World Cup qualifiers in March and Schaeffer’s expertise will be invaluable in the team’s quest to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the USA, Mexico, and Canada.
In a related development, President Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku and Stephen Appiah, Vice Chairman of the Black Stars Management Committee, have paid a visit to injured defender, Alidu Seidu, at Rennes.
The visit demonstrates the strong bond within the football community, where leaders and icons rally around their own in times of need. President Simeon-Okraku has consistently shown his commitment to the welfare of Ghanaian footballers, both on and off the pitch.
Stephen Appiah, a former Ghana captain, brought his wealth of experience and empathy to the visit, offering words of encouragement and support to the right back.
Alidu is currently undergoing rehabilitation after a successful surgery in December last year. He has earned 20 caps and scored a goal for Ghana since his debut in 2022. —Ghanafa.org
