The Chief of Staff, Akosua Frema Opare yesterday presented a cheque of GH¢14,394,397.58 on behalf of President Akufo-Addo and the state to settle the full cost of the surgery of the conjoined twins at the Ridge Hospital in Accra.

This is in fulfilment of a pledge made by the President in July during a visit to the family of the twins and doctors who will perform the surgery.

Presenting the cheque to hospital officials at Ridge Hospital, the Chief of Staff was hopeful the release of the money will now make way for the purchase of equipments to enable doctors perform the surgery on time to save the lives of the conjoined twins.

She said the government was also on standby to provide all the needed support to the medical team to ensure that the surgery was successful.

Madame Opare, however, appealed to Ghanaians to support the twins, their family and the medical teams with prayers.

The Director General of the Ghana Health Service, Dr Patrick Kuma Aboagye, received the cheque on behalf of the hospital and medical team.

He thanked President Akufo-Addo and government for the release of the funds and assured  that the medical team would do a good job in saving the lives of the conjoined twins.

Present at the ceremony were the Health Minister, Kwaku Agyeman Manu, Information Minister Kojo Oppong Nkrumah and chairman of the Health Select Committee in Parliament, Nana Ayew Afriyie.
