Devt in Bolgatanga progressing steadily – MCE
The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Bolgatanga, Mr Roland Atanga Ayoo, says the economic outlook of the municipality is steadily improving under his leadership, despite challenges inherited in revenue mobilisation, sanitation, logistics for security and health services, and poor road networks.
Speaking at the First Ordinary Meeting of the Second Session of the Ninth Assembly in Bolgatanga on Wednesday, August 26, 2025, he said the Assembly had, within eight months, taken steps to address key bottlenecks in infrastructure, resource distribution, security, fiscal performance, and governance.
On security, Mr Ayoo disclosed that 112 criminal cases were recorded in the first half of 2025, representing a six per cent reduction compared with the same period in 2024.
He described the municipality as “largely peaceful” despite threats such as petty thefts, land disputes, and road traffic offences.
Touching on revenue mobilisation, the MCE said the Assembly generated GH¢1,434,125.78 from January to June, representing 43.75 per cent of its annual target of GH¢3,278,000.00.
This, he noted, was an improvement over the 29.81 per cent achieved during the same period last year.
To enhance revenue, he proposed revitalising the Revenue Task Force and outsourcing some collections to financial institutions.
On education, Mr Ayoo said the Assembly had provided 1,200 dual desks to nearly all 167 basic schools, renovated three schools, and supported 450 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) candidates this year.
He pledged continued investment in education to meet the needs of the growing student population.
The MCE urged Assembly Members to support the municipality’s revenue drive to sustain socio-economic development projects.
