Expanding education, health infrastructure without compromising quality is my biggest priority – Zebilla MP

The Member of Parliament (MP) for Zebilla, Ebenezer Alumire Ndebilla, has said he will prioritise education and health infrastructure projects to help bridge the gap between poverty and development in the Bawku West District.

According to him, this will be executed without eroding quality, as he is determined to work diligently towards achieving a paradigm shift in transforming lives in the area.

The Zebilla MP made the pledge on Tuesday when he inaugurated nine fully completed infrastructure projects in the areas of education, health, water and others across several communities in the district.

The projects comprised a three-unit Junior High School (JHS) classroom block constructed in the Timonde community; a three-unit JHS classroom block in Adonsi; and a maternity block at Gbantongo, all in the Bawku West District of the Upper East Region.

The rest include an Out-Patient Department (OPD) furnished with a maternity ward, consulting room, delivery room, among others, constructed at Gogoo; a 10-unit market store project at Sapeliga; and over 40 boreholes spread across communities in the district.

Speaking to journalists and media practitioners at Gbantongo after handing over the projects to the beneficiary communities for use, the MP indicated that he felt fulfilled seeing the execution of the projects after one year in office.

Mr Ndebilla lauded the contractors for expeditiously completing the projects within the stipulated timelines, stressing that, “We gave the contractors a six-month duration to complete the projects, and some used just four months to finish everything. I must commend them while challenging other contractors to speed up their work.”

“In fact, this is the first time in history that a government has taken over the reins of power and, within one year, we have several impactful projects to show in communities in this district,” he added.

The MP further indicated that this formed part of the ‘reset agenda’ under the President John Dramani Mahama-led National Democratic Congress (NDC) government, which is poised to chart a progressive path and deliver massive projects across the length and breadth of Ghana.

Drawing from his 15 years of experience as a development worker in the region, he observed that the district had been overwhelmed with development challenges, particularly in the areas of water, education, and health. He noted that the projects would help alleviate these challenges.

Handing over the 10-unit lockable market store project, executed under the Gulf of Guinea Social Cohesion (SOCO) Project during the erstwhile New Patriotic Party (NPP)-led administration, to the Sapeliga community, the MP noted that the completion of the project aligns with the current government’s vision of completing all projects initiated by the previous administration.

At Gogoo, Amos Abeoyella Akuure, who represented the Director of Health Services for the Bawku West District, noted that the OPD project would significantly reduce pressure on the district hospital in Zebilla.

The District Chief Executive (DCE) for Bawku West, Mr James Ayamwego, pledged his continued support to the legislator in lobbying for development projects befitting the status of the district.
