FA Security C’ttee meets B/A football stakeholders

DCOP Lydia Donkor, Chairperson of the Security Committee, has held a meeting with key stakeholders in the Brong Ahafo (B/A) region to foster unity amongst clubs and address the recent crowd violence at the Ghana Premier League (GPL) match between Nsoatreman FC and Asante Kotoko.

The meeting was attended by prominent officials, including Felix Bewu, a member of the Security Committee, Charles Osei Anto, Chairman of the Brong Ahafo Regional Football Association, ACP Dela Djansi, Sunyani Divisional Police Commander, and Superintendent Francis Numado, Sunyani District Police Commander as well as representatives from various football clubs in the region.

The gathering, according to a statement from the FA, was part of a broader effort to ensure the safety of players, officials, and spectators at various League centres following the violent incidents at the Nana Koronamansah Park which led to the death of Francis Yaw Frimpong, (Nana Poole) a staunch supporter of Asante Kotoko SC.

The match, which ended 1-0 in favour of Nsoatreman FC, was marred by chaos, with players from both teams clashing during the game, resulting in the referee issuing four red cards – three to Asante Kotoko (Justice Blay, Michael Kyei Dwamena, and Mohammed Camara) and one to Nsoatreman FC (Stephen Diyou).

The situation escalated after the final whistle, with violent confrontations breaking out between the fans.

In response to the violence, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has charged Nsoatreman FC and Asante Kotoko indefinitely and banned the Nana Koronmansah Park.

DCOP Donkor’s expertise in security matters, gained from her experience will be invaluable in addressing this issue and preventing future incidents.
