GBA Election: 15 candidates to be scrutinised today

Vetting commences today at the Accra Sports Stadium of candidates vying for elections for positions on the new Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA) board.

In all, 15 candidates are expected to appear before the IMC at this stage of the process described as the defining moment of the process.

A former First Vice President of the Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA), Mr Rabbon Dodoo and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Cabic Boxing Promotions, Mr Ivan Bruce-Cudjoe are expected to lead the process, having been confirmed as candidates vying to become president of the GBA.

The two were confirmed with other candidates at the close of submission on Tuesday, according to a statement issued yesterday by the Interim Management Committee (IMC) administering the day-to-day activities of the Authority.

They would seek the mandate of delegates at its June 4 Elective Congress to elect new officers to takeover the reins of the sport from the IMC established to ensure reforms in the administration of the sport.

The statement, signed by the Chairman of the GBIMC, Mr Samir Captan, also announced another interesting competition in the First Vice President’s slot which has been reduced to a two-horse race between Mr Roger Barnor and Mr Ernest A. Ofori.

Barnor, a referee/judge is coming in as a former Second Vice President in the previous administration who went on to act as president in the absence of the president and the vice.

He will face a stern challenge from the young and dynamic Ofori, an experienced boxing trainer with brilliant ideas on the development and promotion of the sport.

Three persons would contest for the Second Vice President position. They are Mr Dave Bishop, CEO of Bishop Promotions, Mr Ellis Quaye, an executive members of Cabic Boxing Promotions and Mr Moshud Zaid, an experienced boxing promoter and administrator.

Seven candidates would vie for positions on the four-member Executive Board.

They include Alhaji Tofiki Muritala, Mr Yusif Mubarak Nanor, Mr Samuel Opoku Amoah, Mr Bernard Tetteh Nartey, Mr Shadrack Acquaye, Mr Derek Nii Asai Ankrah and Mr Lawrence Carl Lokko.

Mr Nathaniel Awuku Obeng is the only candidate to go unopposed for the Treasurer position.

The committee assured stakeholders of a transparent, fair and credible electoral process in strict adherence to the GBA Constitution.
