GWCL workers pledge support for acting MD to deliver on mandate

The Acting Managing Director of the Ghana Water Company Limited, Adam Mutawakilu, has pledged to work with management and staff of the company to achieve the vision of President John Dramani Mahama to ensure that no community was left behind in terms access to potable water.
He emphasised that his commitment achieve the objective of the GWCL was to working collaboratively with all stakeholders in the sector.
Addressing staff in Accra for the first time in his new role following his appointment by the President, John Dramani Mahama, Mr Mutawakilu acknowledged the critical role of GWCL, adding that, “I may not have an extensive background in water management, but I bring experience in energy, finance, and governance.”
“And I am eager to learn from and work with the dedicated professionals at Ghana Water Company Limited,” he stated.
The collective efforts of management and staff, he said, would be crucial in achieving the vision of the President and ensuring that no community was left behind in terms access to potable water.
Mr Mutawakilu noted that the GWCL remained committed to providing sustainable and reliable water supply to all communities across the country while implementing innovative solutions and strengthen service delivery to meet the growing needs of Ghanaians.
Mr Mutawakilu’s appointment by President Mahama, was in accordance with Article 195(1) of the 1992 Constitution of Ghana as he would serve in this capacity pending approval by the Board, in consultation with the Public Services Commission.
He brings a wealth of experience in public administration, finance, and governance. He holds an MSc in Development Finance from the University of Ghana and an MSc in Energy Economics from the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA).
He also pursued an MPhil in Petroleum and Oil Studies at the University of Cape Coast.
His extensive academic background includes a Commonwealth Executive Master’s in Business Administration from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) and an Executive Certificate in Governance and Leadership from the Ghana School of Governance and Leadership.
Prior to his appointment, Mr Mutawakilu served as the first Member of Parliament for the Damongo Constituency (2013–2020) and was a Ranking Member of the Mines and Energy Committee in Parliament.
He previously worked as District Chief Executive for West Gonja District and Head of Treasury at the University for Development Studies (UDS) Central Administration.
The staff in response pledged full support to their new Acting MD and the Presidents vision for the water sector, and looks forward to a productive and transformative tenure under his leadership.
