Kingston resigns as Black Starlets fall to B’Faso in WAFU Zone B Championship

Hopes of the national U-17 team, the Black Starlets, to win the ongoing WAFU Zone B Championship vanished into thin air on Saturday when they were beaten 2-1 by Burkina Faso at the semi-finals stage of the competition melbet casino online at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium.
It was a game the Ghanaians remained confident about winning, having put up spirited performances to win their group games to qualify.
However, the Burkinabes had a different agenda as they surrendered possession to the Ghanaian youngsters but ensured they converted the few chances they created in the game.
Burkina Faso stunned Ghana in the 12th minute as Asharaf Tapsoba buried from close range after Ghana’s goalkeeper, Michael Armah, spilt a ball to his path.
It proved a major setback for the ‘twinkle twinkle little Starlets’ but they accepted the challenge and pushed the game to their opponents.
In the 30th minute, JoesphNarbi fired home as he curled away from the Burkina Faso’s goalkeeper for a deserved equaliser to end the first half even.
On resumption, the Starlets continued with their dominance and kept their opponent’s area boiling with waves of attacks.
However, the Burkinabes remained resolute at the back and defended gallantly while they patiently looked for opportunities to break the Ghanaians.
When they did, Tapsoba was on hand again to deliver in the 48thminute.
The Starlets fought back again with series of attacks but lacked the cutting edge to open the defence of the Burkinabes who maintained a water-tight defence till hostilities ended.
In their third place game, Ghana will face Nigeria tomorrow.
The defeat led to the resignation of the Head Coach of the team, Laryea Kingston, who announced the decision after the game.
He also refused to honour his post-match duties and was reported to have refused to return to the team’s camp.
The FA has since accepted the resignation and directed the assistant coaches to be in charge of the third place match tomorrow that will precede the finals.
