Man kills mother-in-law, commits suicide
A 33-year-old man, mmanuel Kwofie, killed his mother-in-law, Elizabeth Nkrumah, 66, and shot himself with a single barrel gun, at Apremdo, near Takoradi, in the Western, on Sunday.
The bodies have been deposited at Effman Eternity Funeral Home, Funko, for preservation and autopsy.
The Police Public Affairs Officer, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Olivia Ewurabena Adiku, who confirmed the story to the Ghanaian Times, said that Dora Essandoh, 27, ex-wife of Kwofie, accompanied by her brother, Emmanuel Essandoh, reported the case to the Kwesimintsim police station.
According to the Police PRO, Kwofie went to the house at Apremdo and shot the mother-in-law in the left thigh with a gun and shot himself (Kwofie) in the abdomen, and both of them were rushed to Kwesimintsim Hospital.
According to DSP Adiku, the police accompanied by the complaints visited Madam Elizabeth Nkrumah at the Kwesimintsim Hospital while Kwofie was referred to Effia-Nkwanta Government Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
DSP Adiku said that investigations revealed that Kwofie and the Dora had been in a relationship for the past 10 years and have an eight-year-old boy.
She said that about three years ago, Kwofie went to Spain for greener pastures, and on his return, realised that Dora, whom he had not performed the marriage rites for, had been married by another man.
“According to the complainant, the deceased (Kwofie) was not remitting her while he was in Spain, so she had no option than to go in for another man”, DSP Adiku explained, adding that, the single barrel gun and one ‘AA’ empty shell were found at the scene.
