Police, Airforce to defend ‘Super Volleyball’ titles
The Ghana Police Service male volleyball and Ghana Air Force female volleyball teams will defend their titles at the third edition of the Super Volleyball Championship slated for December 18-22 at the Ghana International School (GIS) in Cantonments, Accra.
The five-day tournament, a reserve for the top six teams in the Greater Accra Volleyball, will have Police being joined in the male category by El Wak Wings and Immanuel Presby Church (IPC) in Group A, while Ghana Air Force, Ghana Army, and Ghana Prisons make up Group B.
Defending champions, Airforce, have been drawn alongside El Wak Wings and Ghana Immigration in Group B of the female category, while the Ghana Army, Ghana Police, and Ghana Prisons Service occupy Group A.
At stake is a giant trophy for both categories, medals and cash prizes.
There would also be individual awards for the most valuable player, best attacker, best setter, best server, best middle blocker, best libero, and best receiver, among others.
Speaking at the launch and trophy unveiling for this year’s edition at the Media Centre of the Accra Sports Stadium on Tuesday, a member of the organisers, Mohammed Awudu Aputeog, said the goal of the Super Volleyball Championship was to improve the quality of the game in the region.
The Technical Director of the Ghana Volleyball Association and Vice Chairman of the Greater Accra Region, Alfred Ofei Awuku Akuffo, advised all the participating teams to be disciplined and display sportsmanship before, during, and after the tournament.
