Torgah crowned Captain One Golf winner
Vincent Torgah emerged winner of this year’s Captain One Invitational Golf Championship, held at the Royal Golf Club in Kumasi on Saturday.
The tournament with close to 100 golfers battling for glory saw the legendary golfer record a net score of 71 to be crowned the champion.
Torgah fought hard to overcome fast-rising golfer, Kwabena Poku to win the game after a playoff over four holes.
The two golfers kept patrons and other participants on edge as they went back and forth attempting to break the tie but a more determined Torgah eventually won after the fourth hole.
Torgah walked away with a giant trophy, a gold medal and GH¢5,000 worth of shopping voucher while his closest contender Poku received GH¢2,500 voucher for his efforts.
Paul Chen from the host club, Royal Golf Club settled for third position with a net score of 73 and receive GH¢1,500 worth of voucher and a bronze medal.
“This is the toughest test I have had in a year and I am so happy that I eventually won though Poku gave me a run for my money,” Torgah said.
Torgah who was participating in the competition for the first time added that, the standard of play at the event was high.
President of Captain One Golf Society, Mr. Pius Ayeh Appiah congratulated the winner and other golfers for showing up to ensure a very competitive event.
The standard, he said, has gone up with the best in the country participating.
He expressed appreciation to the Royal Golf Club for hosting the event, the planning committee and sponsors R.K Cliste, Mosat Photography, Industrial Procurement Services and Flo Polo Designs for their support.
He said the first Major Junior Championship will be held in August with children from five Captain One adopted orphanages competing for glory.
Awards were also presented to Monthly Medal winners with Prince Aduakwa emerging the overall winner while James Akwaboah and George Osei came second and third in that order.
