46 pupils receive uniforms to boost school attendance
Forty-six pupils of the Zagyuri Anglican Primary School in the Sagnarigu Municipality of the Northern Region have received new school uniforms to enable them to begin their academic journey with confidence and dignity.
The uniforms were presented to the pupils by the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Abdulai Imoro Gong, on Friday as part of efforts to support children from vulnerable households and promote access to quality basic education in the municipality.
Presenting the items at Zagyuri, Mr Gong said the gesture demonstrated the government’s commitment to making education accessible and attractive to children, irrespective of their socio-economic background.
He said the government would continue to commit resources to education in the municipality to improve teaching and learning outcomes.
According to him, several interventions had been undertaken in schools across the municipality since he assumed office, including the construction of classrooms and the provision of furniture.
He said the interventions were intended to create a conducive learning environment and provide pupils with the necessary support to excel academically.
“Every stitch represents more than fabric; it is a vote of confidence, a gentle reminder that someone sees their potential and believes in their future,” Mr Gong said.
He said supporting children with basic educational needs went beyond providing material items, describing such interventions as an investment in their future.
“When we clothe a child in dignity, we also wrap them in hope; hope for attendance, for pride, and for the freedom to learn without embarrassment,” he added.
Mr Gong encouraged individuals and organisations to support children in vulnerable communities, saying such interventions could open doors to new opportunities and help children believe in their potential.
He urged the beneficiaries to study hard, remain disciplined and kind, and regard the uniforms as a reminder of the confidence their community had placed in them.
A representative of the school, Madam Hamshatu Awal, thanked the MCE for the gesture and said the beneficiaries were excited to receive the uniforms.
She said the parents were equally grateful for the support, particularly in view of the economic challenges confronting many households.
