Badu, Takyi grab top honours at EA Awards

Avaldsnes IL midfielder, Evelyn Badu, emerged the winner of the Sportswoman of the Year award at the 2022 Entertainment Achievement Awards.

The 19-year old former Hasaacas Ladies player had a wonderful 2021 where she emerged top scorer at the 2021 CAF Women’s Champions League tournament held in Egypt.

Before that, she was a key member of the Hasaacas Ladies team that won a domestic treble, as well as the WAFU Zone B Women’s Champions League tournament in Cote d’Ivoire.

She has also been in imperious form in helping the Black Princesses reach the last round of qualifiers for the 2022 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup.

She beat competition from compatriot Janet Egyir, long jump athlete Deborah Acquah and Black Queens striker Sandra Owusu Ansah.

Ghanaian boxer, Samuel Takyi, was voted the Sports Personality of the Year at the awards.

The 22-year old beat stiff competition from track and field star Benjamin Azamati, footballers Kamaldeen Sulemana, Mohammed Salisu, Daniel Afriyie Barnieh, Salifu Ibrahim as well as swimmer Abeiku Jackson.

Takyi became the first Ghanaian to win an Olympic medal for the first time in 29 years when he claimed bronze at the Tokyo Games last year.

His medal was also the first boxing medal Ghana has won since 1972. –Citinewsroom
