Bronx boxing gym gets facelift

Owner and Chief Coach of the Bronx boxing gym, Lawrence Carl Lokko, says his outfit will soon produce the next world champions for the country.

“There are budding talents ready to explode onto the world scene, and it is just a matter of time. Ghana would soon get a newworld champion from the Bronx Boxing gym.”

Coach Lokko made the remark at the weekend when the Chief Executive Officer of Africa’s most prominent gaming franchise, Choplife Gaming, operators of betPawa, Oluwatosin Oluwole Ajibade, popularly known as Mr Eazi, handed over the refurbished boxing gym to him at James Town in Accra.

According to Coach Lokko, the gym was founded in 2004 and has in the past produced world beaters like former IBF champion, Richard Commey, former WBC silver champion, Duke Micah, former IBO World champion, Emmanuel Tagoe, former WBC silver champion, Fredrick Lawson,

and WBO Africa light heavyweight, and WBO Africa cruiserweight champion, Isaac Braimah Kamoko, nicknamed Bukom Banku, among others.

According to him, the gym currently boast of world class fighters like the current WBO African lightweight champion, Sheriff Quaye, WBO Africa featherweight champion, John Laryea, and national super bantamweight champion, Daniel Selassie Gosh.

That, he explained, was a clear testament to the fact that Ghana would soon get a new world champion.

He thanked Choplife for transforming the gym into a state-of-the-art one fitted with equipment to meet international standards and vowed to maximise the facility’s full potential to continue and groom more world champions.

Mr Eazi said the lack of resources has contributed to the low level oftalent development across the African continent, stating that Ghana and, for that matter Africa, do not lack talent, but what was lacking were opportunities and initiatives.

“The duty of Choplife Gaming is to support Ghanaian talents, be it in sports, music, or the arts. We will continue to collaborate in the Bronx gym to make sure a world champion comes from here.”
